![]() It wasn't hard for him to get over the jubilation of the Oregon win, he said, because "I know it's a long season, and I didn't play that great." Beating Kent State to improve to 3-0 was great and all, but he kept pointing to improvements he has to make with games like the one Saturday coming up - going on the road to play No. His confidence can't help but shine through. While Nix can be wary in front of a wall of cameras, looking down at his feet nervously, there's no denying how he commands a room. Afterward, Nix told reporters, "I think that's my first Bo-to-Seth moment." Bo took the shotgun snap and rather than playing it safe and settling for a manageable field goal, he lobbed a game-winning, 26-yard touchdown pass down the sideline to Seth Williams. 11 Oregon when Auburn trailed 21-20 with 15 seconds left. It came during the season-opening game against No. It's 26 years later, three games into the young season, and already the second-generation QB has his own version. How many years ago was it that Patrick Nix replaced an injured Stan White in the third quarter of the 1993 Iron Bowl with Auburn trailing Alabama 14-5? What happened next built the Nix mythos: Patrick dropped back and heaved a 35-yard touchdown to Frank Sanders that sparked a come-from-behind win and closed out an undefeated season. The silver-haired reporters here, who used to file stories about his father, never thought they'd see another Nix quarterback the Tigers, and there are times when the story feels too good to be true. While it's not unusual for a starting quarterback to be swarmed by the media after a game, the intrigue surrounding Nix at Auburn goes deeper than most. Kam Martin, who rushed for his first touchdown of the season, suddenly found himself standing at a podium with only one reporter by his side. Anthony Schwartz, who somehow managed to play receiver with a cast on his hand, was abandoned almost immediately. The star quarterback, the son of an Auburn legend and a true freshman beyond his years, all in one.īo Nix was one of the last Auburn players to enter the media center inside Jordan-Hare Stadium following the Tigers' 55-16 win over Kent State on Saturday night, and when he did so, it was as if every other conversation taking place no longer mattered. He was in there somewhere, sitting on a small plastic chair in the center of the room, surrounded by a horde of reporters clamoring for whatever postgame nuggets they could scrounge up before deadline. ![]() ![]() Why Bo Nix was born to play QB for AuburnĪUBURN, Ala. Washing dishes while looking at the neighbor’s cat chasing a squirrel makes this mundane process much more exciting. Yes, and don’t forget about a place for a rocking chair on the porch!Īs with many other floor plans, our suggestion would be to add a window on the kitchen wall above the sink. Since the porch is barely large enough for a couple of rocking chairs, it would be a good idea to extend it a bit wrapping around the living room. Most importantly for the elderly, the main bedroom is on the ground floor. Layla is one of the most traditional-looking small granny pods plans with a loft and a porch. What can be better than drinking a cup of hot coffee on your porch with a morning newspaper or whatever device you’re getting your news from? Nova’s design will allow extending the existing roof over the porch creating a nice shelter from the elements. ![]() Many cabin plans with a wrap-around porch have a roof cover. The porch area can be easily extended to the left side of the house. The upstairs space is large enough for a perfect bedroom or an office. ![]() At the same time, the living room is connected to a 105 sq. The cost to build a tiny house or a cabin is based on the actual experience of the authors of these simple cabin plans. We have collected pretty unique cabin plans ranging from tiny to small in size with detailed architectural drawings that also include a list of materials used. Small and simple cabin plans with a loft and a porch for vacation purposes are getting ahead of hunting cabin plans with the number of hunters decreasing each year. Many of us are dreaming about building a custom tiny house with our own hands while looking for a pretty simple project that would be easy to handle. “Small” just refers to the overall size of these little attractive cabins.Small cabin plans are a hot commodity. Just because they are small doesn’t mean they are of any less quality than a standard log home. Small log cabins can be built to look attractive. With extremely deep frost lines things may be a bit different than building here in Montana. For building in Alaska it would be important to check with local contractors in your area to see if a basement was possible. So having a walk out basement would have doubled the size of this cabin for a fraction of the cost. If you have the Hunter plan with only two bedrooms there isn’t any extra space (such as an open loft) to put guests. How many times do you have extra people want to come and spend time. Then the gable end of the log home is framed in and covered with 1×6 pine tongue and groove wood siding.Ī final addition that I would have added to this hunting cabin is a full basement. For this log home the logs stack to a height of about 9 feet. The higher roof line and trapezoid windows are indicative of the loft over head. One feature to consider with the Mule Deer cabin is the half loft. ![]() ![]() The first three of those landmark films are collected in this box set.Īlthough Teshigahara, as director, was responsible for organizing and unifying these collaborations, it is otherwise difficult to distinguish absolutely the separate contributions of each of the three artists. ![]() Their four films- Pitfall (1962), Woman in the Dunes (1964), The Face of Another (1966), and Man Without a Map (1968)-set Japan center stage in the intellectual discourse of a world seeking answers to questions about identity, human existence, and the alienation of modern man in urban society. ![]() Through work intended principally for Japanese audiences, the three struck a chord that harmonized unexpectedly, but perfectly, with the sensibilities and existentialist instincts of the international avant-garde. In the mid-1960s, these three artists came together in a series of extraordinary film collaborations that shocked their more conventional countrymen and instantly won enthusiastic response abroad. Individually, they transformed every area of artistic endeavor they turned to, and they are among the small handful of Japanese writers and artists who have had a significant, lasting impact on international culture. Each in his own right was an artist of peculiar genius, each resisting easy classification in conventional categories: Teshigahara as filmmaker, designer, flower artist, potter, calligrapher Takemitsu as composer, poet, musical theorist, philosopher and Abe as novelist, playwright, director, theater innovator. He was elected a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1977.The names Hiroshi Teshigahara, Kobo Abe, and Toru Takemitsu loom large among Japanese intellectuals of the late twentieth century. In the 1960s, he collaborated with Japanese director Hiroshi Teshigahara in the film adaptations of The Pitfall, Woman in the Dunes, The Face of Another and The Ruined Map. Though he did much work as an avant-garde novelist and playwright, it was not until the publication of The Woman in the Dunes in 1962 that he won widespread international acclaim. He was first published as a poet in 1947 with Mumei shishu ("Poems of an unknown poet") and as a novelist the following year with Owarishi michi no shirube ni ("The Road Sign at the End of the Street"), which established his reputation. ![]() I thought Tyler Cowan (with whom I often don’t agree) did an excellent job of defining what we do know about AI and then what questions to ask. I thought this was the most edifying of the econtalk episdoes on AI – not because it had the answers but because it had the questions. As our tools grow ever more powerful, that hubris grows ever more dangerous. It’s the kind of arrogance that Aeschylus wrote about at the dawn of civilization, the hubris that has caused so much suffering over the millennia. I suspect that, in such a world of pampered welfare and lack of any sort of meaningful work, most people will simply slip into insanity.Ĭowen’s lack of imagination is startling, but what really worries me is his feeling of casual superiority. ![]() I doubt that the machines will “come for us.” What concerns me is a world in which a human has no function, no vocation. The last vocations to be rendered unnecessary will probably be jobs like auto repair that require a wide range of practical knowledge along with the ability to manipulate tools in physically demanding situations, but even they will yield, all too soon, to the economics, robotics, and superior analytical abilities of advanced AI. At the current rate of AI development, I strongly suspect that their services will no longer be required in these fields or in most others. They seem to believe that their particular vocations as educators and writers will remain untouched by these developments. Roberts and Cowen both speak casually about people having to adapt to a world with ChatBot or even AGI. And, how like an economist- the way we should debate this is with competing “models.”ĭr. Cowen sneers at this model, while offering nothing different. Has he developed a model? If he were present when Gutenberg produced the first printed page, could he have produced a predictive model of any utility at all? The model concerned people are offering is in the rhetoric they produce, both written and oral. ![]() I’m deeply concerned about the impact of AI, but Cowen is ready to dismiss my concerns out of hand, unless I develop a “model” of potential impact. The only other potentially similar line of technological development at the moment is gene editing, which has risks of a similar magnitude. Not even the splitting of the atom is comparable. Using the impact of the printing press as an analog to the potential impact of AI? Really?!!? The potential power and ubiquity of AI in this era are unparalleled- they are qualititatively different from any other breakthrough in human affairs. The fallacies in Cowen’s arguments are so overwhelming that it’s difficult to respond to them all. I think it’s hard to model something where reasonable people can disagree on whether it’s more like the invention of the printing press, or more like The Great Oxidation Event. So what’s the relevant historical model or data you could bring to bear on a model? I think Eliezer would say the most relevant historical event is the evolution of humans, but 1-10 million times faster. Taken together those two points make it seem like we are inventing the atomic bomb, but without understanding enough physics to know what detonates them off, or how big the explosions will be. (2) We are profoundly ignorant of how GAIs work, what makes it more or less of a threat, and how to control it if it is a threat. (1) General AI has a significant chance of being an existential threat to the human race. Here are 2 claims that I actually don’t think are too controversial – To be sympathetic to Team Eliezer here, I think there’s a relatively conservative version of his story that is still pretty scary.
